The People-Watcher’s Guide To The United States Of America may well be the most important book of the decade. Simon Kilpatrick certainly thinks so.
Based on observations from his people-watching expeditions to the USA, this indispensable handbook for the globally aware traveler will help you to distinguish between the many types of American people out there, so you can better place everyone you see into a box (because people are easier to deal with when they’re in boxes).
It also reveals never-before-documented facts and answers all your questions about the people of the USA. For example
• What should you never do in an American airport?
• Are all Americans obese? (If not, why not?)
• Why do white Americans prefer black babies when adopting?
• Which state is better than all the others?
• What is an American woman’s favorite toy?
• What is a Mexican’s favorite leisure activity?
• How do Americans decide which political party to support?
• Where can you go to see a Redneck?
About the author
Simon Kilpatrick is a world-renowned observer of people. Dubbed the Sir David Attenborough of Humans – by himself (“Where Attenborough observes animals,” he says, “I observe humans”) – he has undertaken people-watching expeditions to more than 111 countries on nine different continents.
When questioned on his nationality, Kilpatrick notes that he is “a citizen of Earth” – he was born on a Swiss ship in international waters somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, to a mother who was half-German and one-sixteenth-Latino, and to a father who was three-quarters-Irish and two-thirds-South African. His first language is Esperanto. He had lived in all the countries of sub-Saharan Africa before his fifth birthday.
Kilpatrick believes it is his multicultural heritage that has enabled him to accurately determine the subtle differences between the people of different nations.

This book is unavailable in the US, at least under the name I saw it as: "The Racist's Guide..." The South African author is consistently entertaining, funny, and interesting -- and not a racist, just candid. His first point is "Americans are ridiculously politically correct and they find the topic of race to be extremely offensive." The American edition's new title proves the point. However, South Africans have moved ahead of us in the last 20 years, and are quite willing to talk about >their< races. The fascinating book by Kilpatrick, "the Racist's Guide to the People of South Africa", which I bought in South Africa (even I was afraid to buy it!) led me to send for the American one (though Abebooks, not Amazon), which I found as good except that I know more about America than South Africa. Read it with either title to get some valuable perspective on our eccentricities, which we actually think are normal. It's a very good little book.Product details

The PeopleWatcher Guide To The United States Of America edition by Simon Kilpatrick Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews
I absolutely loved it and laughed so loud at all the wonderful characters!
Clever, observant humor from Simon, and beautifully writtten.
It's great how earnestly ironic, and both hilarious and enlightening this book is; I'm feeling a bit inspired to take up people-watching, myself.
We read the first book and could not wait for the second one. We found it on a shelf in J'burg. I am glad it is on here now, much easier to get from here in Africa. It is hilarious and insightful. Keep observing and writing.
Don't read if you don't have a sense of humor. But if you do, do. Because we don't laugh enough in this country, it might take a good man from another to get us started. Thank you sir, for this valiant effort at getting Americans to laugh at themselves. Enjoying this read immensely.
Very funny satire of the USA and it's people - from airport security to Mexicans to fat people to political "tribes". Warning not politically correct!
I downloaded it last night and have not stopped laughing. After all, if we Americans cannot laugh at ourselves, life would get very dull.
